Week 2: Terry
Week 2: Terry
Hand-drawn illustration based upon an original short story, newly concocted for each week of the year 2022. Comes framed exactly as the pictured example with the story in its entirety inscribed upon the back of the frame.
Let me tell you about my friend.
It was both easy and difficult to paint this portrait- I’ve drawn Terry countless times. I’ve drawn him as a joke at 3am, drunk, and painting in art school, I’ve drawn him seriously for our professor- the late, great, John Gee (who we both revered) but I had not entertained drawing him for this reason, until now. Yesterday we lost a force of nature. Terry was ferocious. He was the only artist that has ever intimidated me, and that doesn’t change with his passing. A true genius. But beyond that he was so fun. In a mischievous sort of way he was always down for pranks and laughs and dares. I could fill a book with the things we got up to in college. For 4 years we were inseparable. A kind of friendship, camaraderie, rivalry you can only hope to have even once in your life. Terry was a phenom. A big heart. A fucking monster. I wish we hadn’t lost touch the way we did. He was a true legend in his time- and I know he knew it. Wherever you are I know you’re givin ‘em hell. I love you my friend, and I wish I could have told you one more time. p.s.- he would have hated this… but secretly loved it.
